Winery La Melonera

Winery La Melonera

Description

It was an April afternoon in 2003 when the winemaker Javier Suqué, heir to one of the most important wine traditions in Spain, shared with his cousin Jorge Viladomiu Peitx the illusion of doing something different, something that would leave its mark, and at the same time paid tribute to a lifetime dedicated to the cultivation of the vine. This is how, together with a group of investors passionate about the challenge, they embarked on the adventure of finding the best location for the creation of unique wines. After much research among the endless volumes of the private library of the Perelada Castle, property of the Suqué Mateu family since 1923, the answer appeared between the pages of a book written in 1807 by Simón de Rojas Clemente, in which They detailed the incomparable characteristics of the Serranía de Ronda and its ancient winemaking tradition, interrupted at the end of the 19th century by the phylloxera plague. With patience and care, the native vines were tracked and recovered to return them to that land bathed by the Mediterranean sun, by the Atlantic winds and by a tradition of vines that dates back to the time of the Phoenicians. Little by little the efforts bore fruit, and today, with their wines La encina del Inglés and Payoya negra, that old dream is a very concrete reality.

Winery Cuesta de la Viña

Winery Cuesta de la Viña

Description

From the hand of Alejandro Durán and Antonio Muñoz this unique company was born: Bodega Cuesta la Viña. With extensive experience of more than 20 years as Engineers dedicated to Agri-Food Engineering, they summarize their project by pointing out that until now they have always worked for the ideas and dreams of other businessmen, now together they have launched their own project, their own ideas, his own illusions. Cuesta la Viña Winery is protected by the Sierras de Málaga Denomination of Origin Regulatory Council, and registered in the Serranía de Ronda sub-zone. The Regulatory Council ensures both quality and ensuring the specific characteristics of the covered products. As it is a winery located in the Serranía de Ronda, it is therefore guaranteed that 100% of the grapes used to make its wines come from this sub-area and also comply with all the specific requirements of the D.O. Council. As far as the vineyard is concerned, around the year 2003, after meeting the first winegrowers of the Serranía de Ronda, and after analyzing and studying the possibilities and potential of the “terroir”, it was then that they decided to start planting. The farm tends to organic cultivation and most of the field work is carried out with the use of draft animals and old farming implements, since one of its objectives is the recovery of ancestral work, without this implying leave aside new knowledge and new technologies. All the work of the winery is focused on a single purpose: to obtain high quality wines. It began with the planting of Tempranillo, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties. Later it was expanded with Pinot Noir and Graciano. Due to the type of production, red wines are wines with great structure and minerality that reflect their own “terroir”. Currently, two types of wine are produced: a red wine aged 12 months in French oak barrels and a production of around 10,000 bottles, and a surprising rosé that reaches a production of 1,500 bottles.

Winery Lunares

Winery Lunares

Description

Wineries Lunares was born from the concern of a Ronda family passionate about all types of wines, the Morales León family. In 2003 they acquired a plot of about 4 hectares, and in a short time they decided that they wanted to plant a vineyard. This plot was called “Finca Lunares” and that is where the name of the winery comes from.
Ronda was always a land of vineyards, until between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, phylloxera arrived from Malaga and annihilated the vast majority of Europe’s vineyards.

The winery is located just over 1 km from Ronda, being part of a building from the late 18th century that was already used as a winery many years ago.
It has 3 main areas, the production room, the aging room and the tasting room. Next to the winery, and with direct connection, is the Hotel Bodega El Juncal, where you can enjoy immense peace with a glass of wine contemplating the wonderful views of the Sierra de las Nieves and Sierra Hidalga.
